[The last event left Cheyenne in a weird place and since then, she's been rather scarce around the village. Aside from getting food at one of the village restaurants, she's spent most of her time either in her apartment or in the forests just outside the village. Today, she's actually back to her usual spot: sitting on the edge of one of Luceti's many bridges, looking down at the water.]

[A few hours of this goes by until she finally opens her journal and poses a question to the residents. The very thing that's been on her mind all this time.]

It is not uncommon for others to ask questions using these journals, yes? [A pause. She wasn't really expecting an answer to that.]

...what do you think it means to be a "person"?

[That's... actually a strangely interesting question.]

Searching database for the meaning of "person"...

[There's a brief pause after she says this.]

...Search complete. The meaning of "person"... A being displaying human-like behavior or a self-conscious or rational being.

[She really is just reciting that from her database, but... well, it is the definition she's familiar with.]

So there is a connection between being human and being a person?

[There's a pause before she answers. She has the definition of the term in her database, but not its origin. But based of what information she has, she can at least try to respond.]

Human behavior is... considered a standard for being a person. [If you go by the first definition, that is. This doesn't necessarily apply to the other one - which is why she isn't outright confirming or denying the existence of a connection.]

I see. That is not very different from what I have been thinking.

[It's the definition she's always used as well. As a result, seeing some of the definitions that others have mentioned is a little strange to her. It does bring something else to mind for her, though - merely a small addendum to her initial explanation, but one that strikes her as worth noting.]

...The existence of non-humans identifiable as a "person" has been confirmed. [Both back in her own world and here, although she's admittedly referring more to the former with her statement.]

Hm. That is not entirely surprising. I suppose I am using the word "human" simply because they are rather abundant here in Luceti. In my previous world, elemen made up the majority of "people" I have seen.

Elemen...? [That's definitely not a term she's heard before... and not one recorded in her database, either. Maybe it's a species exclusive to this girl's world...?]

Creatures that are human by species, but physically adapted to manipulate elements. The world I came from has two branches of humans: elemen and men. Prior to my arriving here, I had never met a human who was not an eleman.
