Greetings, residents of Luceti. I am called Cheyenne, and there is something I wish to ask of you all.

By tomorrow, it will have been a month since my arrival in Luceti. I have, for the most part, remained unseen. I would have continued such a manner of living for the benefit of others here, but circumstances make such a lifestyle impossible for a creature such as myself. I am what is called an Illusionist. My kind is considered a monster in my world, due to what we must do to survive.

That is to say, illusionists feed on the souls of other living creatures.

To follow that, I feel I must add that the term "soul" may be different in my world as it is to your own. Illusionists see the soul in four parts, one of which naturally fluxuates throughout the day. Feeding on this section, Power, does little more than tire a creature in the same way that running a mile would tire a creature... no, not even to that extent. The process is truly harmless. You see, I am unique in terms of illusionists. My sisters feel no remorse in draining the souls of innocent creatures. I, however, do not wish to do so against the wishes of a creature who would feel uncomfortable in such a situation. Nor do I wish to bring harm to those residing in the village.

And so, I am here asking if there is anyone in Luceti who would be willing to allow me to feed off of them.

Ideally, I would only be required to feed on a particular person one time every few weeks. I only need to feed once or twice a week to contain my hunger. If I were in a desperate state, once a month would be enough to keep me sane. Although that is, by far, not a very ideal situation for myself...

Should anyone be so willing as to aid me, I would like a chance to meet with you sometime soon so that I may be sure it would be safe to feed from you. As the Power of a soul relates directly a creature's own stamina, those who are prone to frequent illness or weakness would be best to refrain from offering. And, if you are so willing, I will also show the process by which I feed so you know what to expect in the future.

[[ooc: Okay, a few things to clarify in regards to Cheyenne's feeding! First, if you haven't filled out her permissions post, please do so here! It makes threading with her much easier if I know whether or not she can see your character.

And now, the feeding itself. If your character agrees to this, Cheyenne will appear at their home once every few weeks to feed. It takes about 5 minutes and will make your character light-headed or sleepy for a few hours, or until they eat something. Most of this will likely be hand-waived in the future, seeing as Cheyenne will probably just feed-and-leave for the most part.

In this post, Cheyenne will need to meet your character in person to see if they're safe to feed on, so this will be one of the few times the feeding will be played out! Illusionists can't over-eat souls, so she will be doing multiple feedings in one day just this once. If you want, we can hand-waive this as well and you can just have your character volunteer. Well then, Alf, now that I have met you in person, I can see that your soul is certainly capable enough to be fed upon.

[A pause.] That is to say, I see through the manner in which I can see anything. Although I may be wearing a blindfold, that is merely out of convenience. My "sight" allows me to sense creatures based upon their soul, whereas my eyes are merely tools for creating illusions and feeding.

[ He nods as she explains, taking in every word for future reference. ]

I think I understand. You don't necessarily need to "see" me since you're capable of sensing my . . . soul -- and it's by that that you deduced whether you could feed on it or not.

That is correct, yes. With that, I believe now is a good time to explain exactly how the process is performed?

As I just mentioned, I feed by drawing out portions of the soul by creating illusions using my eyes. It is through the use of these illusions that the soul of a creature becomes vulnerable to an illusionist, making it possible for the soul to be removed. The only way an illusion will be seen is through direct eye contact, and once eye contact is broken, the illusion vanishes. And without an illusion, I am unable to feed.

[Her hand hovers over her blindfold.] And as for this, while I am capable of controlling the sorts of illusions I produce, I am unable to control the production of illusions themselves. The blindfold is more convenient, and far safer, than merely walking around with my eyes closed.

[ Once she finishes, Alf lets out a low "hm" as the process becomes clearer to him. ]

Thank you; that was very informative. I think I understand, especially in regards to the blindfold.

[A smile.] You are a fast learner. I have only one more thing I would like to do, and that is give you first-hand experience in dealing with my illusions.

I wish to state once more that the process is harmless. Particularly in this run, as I will merely show you the capabilities of my illusions and will not feed more than a few moments.

However, you should still be aware that just as I am incapable of controlling whether or not an illusion will be created, I am also incapable of preventing myself from feeding while creating an illusion.

All right, I'll keep that in mind. I fully understand and accept the consequences of being shown your illusions.

[ He raises an arm to complement the next words, ] Shall we?

[With a nod, Cheyenne takes a quick glance around; the square is rather empty today, so it wouldn't be a problem to do this here. It will only take a few brief moments, after all.] I'll need to you sit down and keep your eyes closed. It is absolutely imperative that you do not open your eyes until I say so.

Under no circumstances can you open them until I tell you. That is most important. [After repeating those instructions, she reaches up and starts to untie the blindfold around her eyes.]

Understood. I await your next instruction.

[ With that he takes a sit around the fountain, and closes his eyes. And keeps them closed. ]

Oh, yeah, I think that would be alright. I'll have to experience it sometimes after all, right? [Although he won't say it, he is a little nervous about it.]

[For awhile, all is silent. It takes Cheyenne a few minutes to adjust her eyes for the proper illusion, and once she is ready, she gives the o.k.] Open your eyes.

[And when Alf opens his eyes, he won't see Cheyenne. He won't see the village or the square. Instead, he'll see a field of brown grass, turned gold by a setting sun in the distance. The sky above is a soft maroon color and purple clouds dreamily float throughout. The fountain he was sitting on has become a large, flat stone.]

[And sitting beside him is Cheyenne, once more blindfolded.] You are free to move and speak in the illusion, although your physical body will do neither. Likewise, I am not really sitting next to you, nor am I truly speaking to you. It is rather akin to a dream, in that sense.

Very well. [She scans the area for people, sensing that it was really just the two of them in the square right now, so it would be fine. It would only take a few moments, after all.]

I need you to sit down and shut your eyes. It is crucial that you absolutely do not open them until I say so. [She reaches up and begins to untie the blindfold.] Under no circumstances may you look until then.

[[ooc: Is Vash wearing his glasses right now? Because of the powercap, and since they're tinted, he'll see her eyes instead of an illusion. But Cheyenne won't realize that until her eyes are open~]]

[Vash hesitates a moment before sitting down and shutting his eyes. He tenses slightly and listens carefully, he may be trusting, but he's a bit too use to being double crossed to be completely trusting. So he's listening for any funny sounds or movements. Not to mention the idea of seeing illusions is not excatly comforting, but for now he'll keep his eyes shut as instructed.]

(OOC: Seeing as he's in "serious mode" yeah, he'd have them on. Mun will try to make note of things like that in the future. XD Should have guessed that things dealing with eyes would be important for something like that.)

[DETAILS]

If you're the special one, then maybe I should show you a good time around town.

[For a few moments, everything is silent. Cheyenne needs the time to adjust her eyes for the illusion. Finally, she speaks.] You may open your eyes.

[But something is amiss. Instead of an illusion, when Vash opens his eyes he'll see Cheyenne standing there, blindfold in her hands, and two curiously shiny eyes staring back at him.]

[Vash opens his eyes and sits for a moment, waiting for something to start, was it just her eyes that were suppose to change? He had expected something much more extensive and real feeling.] Uh, is the illusion just in your eyes? [Because they're very hypnotic and beautiful.]

...what?

[Suddenly her eyes snap shut and she jerks around, covering them with her hands.] What. It... didn't work. Why didn't it...

[A pause. She doesn't need to turn around in order to look over Vash, trying to sense a reason why the illusion wouldn't have worked on him.] This may seem an odd question, but are you wearing something over your eyes?

Over my... oh! [And seeing as Vash is actually smarter than he lets on, he already starts to remove his sunglasses.] Sunglasses, I uh... guess I should take them off. Heh, sorry about that, I sometimes forget I'm wearing them.

I should close my eyes again?

Sunglasses... [She doesn't quite understand what he means by sunglasses, but she knows what glasses are. And they've never stopped her from creating an illusion before.]

They are not special in any way, are they? From regular glasses? I have never had an illusion fail in such a way before. Not once, in the decades I've been alive. [Another pause and, before he can answer, she adds another, quieter question.] ...does that mean you were able to see what my eyes look like?

They're tinted a yellowish color to make it easier to see in bright sunlight, it takes a bit of the harshness out of the light.

And yes, I could. Would you like to know what they looked like?

Even a tint should not have... [She trails off, turning and facing Vash. She drops her hands down to her sides but her eyes remain shut.]

...what did they look like?

I see. Alright then. [ Congratulations, he's not going to try killing her yet. ]

Well, they're unlike any other eyes I've seen before. Instead of having a pupal with color around it, they were a vast shade of calming gery with flecks of white within it, and it took up the entirely of your eyes.

It was very beautiful really. [Disturbing, but if you didn't think about what was suppose to be there it was beautiful.]

[ And when he opens his eyes, they considerably widen at the sight that greets them. He feels the stone beneath him.]

W-wow . . .

[ Noticing Cheyenne then, he nods slowly, then rises and takes a step forward. He looks around and takes in the new surrounding -- it's much more different than he thought it would be. ]

It certainly almost feels like a dream.

[ He turns back to the stone, where Cheyenne should be sitting. She said she's not really sitting there, but. It's all kind of surreal. ]

[Cheyenne isn't nearly as impressed. The only thing she's looking at is Alf, sitting on the fountain in the square. But illusion!Cheyenne gets to her feet and stands atop the stone. Notably, although the grass is obviously blowing in the wind, Alf shouldn't be able to feel the breeze.] My illusions are usually stronger than this. At their strongest, you are not even aware that an illusion is taking place, and all your senses are fooled into feeling what you see. Your mind becomes completely immersed in the world you see before you.

[She stretches out her hand and swats at the air.] To break out of such an illusion, it requires more than the mere knowledge that the illusion isn't real. You need to fight against what you are seeing.

[She looks down at him.] Although I do not wish to give you reason not to trust me, at the same time, I feel it is only fair for you to understand the weakness of my illusions should the need ever arise where you would need to break from one yourself.
